WELCOME!
We're
on a Mission...
...to provide the finest
sailing
instruction available at any price - something we started doing in
1968. Our family is an award-winning industry leader. We combine
decades of owner-operation with fresh enthusiasm, and we have an enviable
amount of real, hands-on experience.
Teaching aids, location, boat selection, and choice of instructors all
come together in the most finely developed program in the industry.
Our logos might be goofy,
but our sailing is serious. That's why this woman is singlehanding!
Yes, you'll do that in our learn-to-sail/Basic Keelboat course, Start
Sailingsm.
Sounds intimidating? Don't worry - it's actually fun, just like our
equally effective
Obstacle Coursesm-
another NYSC signature (and apparent exclusive). |
|
|
We're a Certification Facility for both.
|
Browse around this site;
watch a few of our video clips.
You'll quickly learn why
you can't get a better sailing school education - OR value - anywhere else!
|
|
...for
boats owners, our yacht club offers excellent
mooring facilities with launch service at our City Island anchorage
- one of the most attractive and protected in the region,
and the Island's finest. New York Sailing Center has been a practical
alternative to expensive marina slips and traditional private yacht clubs
for 28 years - with no initiation fees or assessments.

The answer to
our question from the top of the page:
"Red over green" refers
to lights that some sailboats are allowed to display at night. While
most boats, sail or power, have to display a red light on the port (left)
side, and a green light to starboard, sailboats are generally also allowed
to display a red over green light at the top of the mast. We start
teaching our students about the lights required at night in our learn-to-sail
course,
Start Sailing (Basic Keelboat),
and actually use them in Start Cruising
(Basic Coastal Cruising).

See our students in action! In-house clips, both local & abroad,
as well as us on cable and network TV. |
