Sunsail, the world's largest charter firm, chose us as their school in New York to refer new students to for the best training, so they can go back to Sunsail and bareboat charter at a discount reflecting their "better risk" status!

All Sunsail and Moorings yachts have chartplotting GPS!  Make sure you're ready to use them safely and to the fullest.  Take our GPS clinic!

...announcing our new RADAR Clinic!

NEXT SCHEDULES:
3 Wednesday evenings, February 13, 20, 27, 6:30 to 9:45
2 Sunday mornings, March 9 & 16, 10 to 3.
Location: Long Island City, Broadway & Steinway - 3 stops from Manhattan on R or V trains.  Take G if in Brooklyn or Queens.  Or drive!  Parking is good 'n plenty.

New for 2008 is our Radar Clinic, and almost no one else is offering this.  ASA recently introduced a new certification endorsement for Radar, and this clinic leads to it.  Learn the principles and practicalities of marine Radar in three evenings or two weekend mornings.
Topics include:
      • principles of Radar
      • major components
      • features & functions found on most units
      • interpreting the Radar screen
      • Radar for navigation: bearings and ranges
      • Radar for collision avoidance: rapid plotting of Radar targets
      • adjusting controls for weather and sea conditions
      • pitfalls and potential misinterpretation
The course is taught by Captain Stephen Glenn Card, the Director of the Sailing Center.  Captain Card has a Radar Observer Unlimited endorsement on his USCG Master's License and is a candidate for the ASA Radar Instructor endorsement (which will be official prior to the clinic).

      Tuition of $345 includes:

      • Practice with a PC based Radar Simulator
      • Course materials, including Radar Simulator software (PC only).
      • Use of our plotting tools (we recommend you bring your own)
      • ASA Radar exam and endorsement
      • NYSC Course completion certificate

Next two schedules: 3 Wednesday evenings, February 13, 20 & 27; 2 Sunday mornings, March 9 & 16.
Location: Long Island City at Broadway & Steinway Street (R and V trains from Manhattan, and G train in Brooklyn/Queens).  Or, drive – safe, convenient parking.

Who can attend?  Anyone.  We recommend that you have at least Basic Cruising or Coastal Nav (next CoNav schedule starts Sunday, January 27) before you take the clinic, but again, it is not required to attend.  Before you can get the ASA Radar endorsement, however, you must have 104 (Bareboat).  Regardless of whether you sail or have certification, you will receive a certificate from the Sailing Center upon successful completion of the course.

Certification Achieved:  The new ASA Radar Endorsement.
